The wedding of, Rich, a North East man, Kerry, an Australian, both living in London, was always going to be fun. They decided to come back to Rich's roots for their wedding: Rock and Roll Wedding at South Causey.
Words by Kerry.
"We wanted to get married in an area that meant something to us, so chose the area where his parents grew up. Everyone loves a destination wedding so the Londoners were happy to travel up & it gave the Aussies an opportunity to explore the Beautiful North.
Our date was 31st October so we just had to incorporate Halloween (or the Celtic Samhain) into the day. We are both musicians (that's how we met) so music was always going to be a big focus for the day - we love festivals for their inclusiveness, vibe & quirky entertainment, so organising one of our own seemed the right thing to do. For us, the musician who embodies all of this is David Bowie, a long time inspiration to us both, and with a similar interest in space, theatre, magic and fashion. Our All Hallows' festival drew attention to the special time of year when many believe that the spirit world can make contact with the physical world; a night when magic is at its most potent, and the change of season is marked by ritual.
The children & some adults happily obliged by dressing up in Halloween costumes in the evening, watching the fireworks outside with mulled wine before heading inside to dance away and eat the roast hog & a tower of British cheeses. The children had a chill out room in the back with films, arts and crafts, and toys. This allowed them to escape from the noise when they wanted to, and enabled parents (including us!) to relax knowing their kids were happy and safe.
The venue, South Causey Inn were amazing - helpful & flexible. They supported all of our ideas with a clear programme of what we needed to provide & what they would do to help us realise our vision. Jamie in particular, the wedding coordinator, was completely unflappable. He was always present, pleasant & calm, while not being overbearing or bossy. We couldn't have made the day so spectacular without his respect, enthusiastic love of music & consistent support.
We had been recommended Phil by the venue & could instantly see why. He was enthusiastic about our ideas, knew the Inn & its quirks extremely well, and most importantly, takes amazing pictures. He's been really accommodating but also firm & direct enough when necessary. In the lead up to the day he took his time to check out the wedding band, look through our invites & get to know us a bit. On the day he was unobtrusive when necessary but also worked extremely hard to cover as much of the wedding as possible.
Having someone so experienced with weddings is such an important thing because he understood all the emotions & situations that were completely new to the two of us. He's such a lovely guy, and the photos are spectacular. Thank you so much, Phil!"
